StudentAid - college dream = american dream

About StudentAid: "At StudentAid.com we believe * in the 'college dream' as much as we do in the 'American dream.' * education can transform an individual and a nation. * every individual with the interest and capability to complete a post-secondary education should be able to do so, regardless of their or their family's financial or personal circumstances. * that pursuing a dream—any dream—without due regard to its financial implications is reckless and potentially harmful. Indo-European Languages - free language resources

About Indo-European Languages: "This website is for anyone looking for free language resources in many of the Indo-European languages. Currently, there are 15 language tutorials available - three of which are not Indo-European languages - and 2 comparative tutorials for studying two languages simultaneously. Mp3s are also available for the French tutorials to aid with pronunciation (as well as for the FSI French, German, and Italian courses), and interactive exercises are currently available for the French I, French Slang, French Phonetics, Italian I and German I tutorials. ... The Languages section provides a complete list of the free language tutorials available, as well as other information about learning languages. The Linguistics section offers notes and papers to download from my university Linguistics courses. ...Feel free to use these tutorials for your own personal, educational use in or outside of the classroom. I've tried to make the tutorials easy to copy and paste into a word processer for printing. You can also print directly from your web browser, as I have used CSS coding to eliminate certain areas so that just the main text will print. In addition, the pages have been formatted for handheld devices. ... Lastly, if you'd like to contribute resources to ielanguages.com, please let me know. Finding native speakers to record pronunciation of the vocabulary is most important."

Toodoc - a pdf search engine

About Toodoc: "If you have ever tried to search for books using the most common search engines, then you know that actually finding one can be tough. Thankfully, there is toodoc.com. Through this search engine, you’ll be able to search the web for PDF files, and nothing else. This allows you to type in the key words that describe the book you are looking for, and see what’s available. After you search, you’ll be presented with a listing of books and PDF files that matched your search criteria. One great thing about the site is that you can preview the files before downloading them. This allows you to see if the book you found is the one you were looking for. The preview loads really quickly and should serve as an alternative for anyone who doesn’t want to download the texts, and needs them for quick reference. Allowing to preview the files is a great feature that makes the site a lot more useful. In their own words “PDF and book search engine” Why it might be a killer PDF books are often hard to find on the web. This site makes it really easy, and since it lets you preview the books, you’ll only be downloading what you want."

Tungle - meeting coordinator

tungle-logo-main-thumb-150x68-8581.jpgAbout Tungle: "Professionals spend more time coordinating meetings than having them. Over 60% of meetings of professionals are with people outside their immediate company. Existing e-calendars only work within the confines of a single company, and do little to help professionals be more productive and connected. Tungle solves these challenges. We do this without requiring you to switch systems. Rather, we accelerate the environment you’re already familiar with. Tungle currently syncs with Outlook (with or without Exchange), Google Calendar, Apple iCal and Entourage for Mac. Tungle is powered by a small, but dedicated team. We are headquartered in Montreal, Canada, have a Development Center in Waterloo, Canada, and are funded by Commonwealth Capital Ventures, JLA Ventures and Desjardins Venture Capital."

Periodic Table Elements - from Los Alamos National Laboratory

About the Periodic Table of Elements: "Originally this resource, the Periodic Table, was created by Robert Husted at Los Alamos National Laboratory during his time as a Graduate Research Assistant. The Periodic Table that you are currently viewing was inherited by the Chemistry Division from the Computer Division who provided the laboratory some of the internets first web sites. This page was given a face lift, tummy tuck, and lobotomy in 2002/2003 by Mollie Boorman. All of the graphics (other than the one of the nuclear submarine) were created in Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator in the eye-numbing hours of Mollie's workday. Still to come: grammar changes and newer information. Email Mollie at mboorman@lanl.gov --not just to contribute useful comments and corrections, but because Mollie likes email. This page is being offered as a public service to all those wanting to become more educated in the field of Chemistry. This is an imperfect resource with ambiguities and errors. If you notice something incorrect about our web page we would be grateful for any pointers. We welcome any suggestions or comment at nicky@lanl.gov."

iPod Literacy - classroom resources

About iPod Literacy: "While introduced as a hard drive based music player in 2001, the iPod has evolved into an essential tool for literacy in the 21st century. The availability of educational content is staggering. There are podcasts on everything from math to history to science to learning a foreign language. There is even a podcast on basket weaving. What is even more amazing is how easy it is for students and teachers to create their own digital content for the iPod. Students can then guide their own learning at their own pace, and review content on-demand. This idea of anywhere-anytime learning means the student is no longer tethered to the classroom learning environment."

Flipbook! - a drawing game

About Flipbook!: "Flipbook! is the drawing game that allows people to create simple animations and share them with the world! A lot like its predecessor, you draw with your mouse on the drawing area and use the arrows to add frames or to go back to previous frames. Colors and different stroke widths have been added to give Flipbook! a wider range of expression. Another extra tool is the 'duplicate frame' button which makes the animation job a lot easier. You can use the 'save' button to save your work in progress without publishing it. You can reopen it again from 'my flipbooks' and keep working on the animation until you are ready to publish it. You can use 'save & publish' when you are ready to publish the animation. Once you publish an animation you can't work on it any more. You can even make multiple smaller Flipbooks! called 'scenes', work on them independently and them mash them together using 'build and publish' to create your final Flipbook!"

Reference Point Software Templates - APA, MLA

logosmall.gifReference Point Software APA Template: "Reference Point Software's templates make it easy to format your papers in APA style. With just a few clicks of the mouse, your document will have the proper margins, with the header and page numbers in exactly the right places. Even references and citations are a snap…just type in the information and the software will format it perfectly. Most importantly, our templates allow you to concentrate on the content of your paper, so you can learn about the topic rather than word processing commands. Save time and work smarter with our templates, which are available for use with Word, Microsoft Works, OpenOffice and NeoOffice. These templates are based on the 6th Ed. of the APA Publication Manual (see order screen for the versions availble in 5th & 6th Edition) and include support for APA's style guidelines for electronic resources and references."

Not free, but still an excellent tool for the money. I use the APA template most often.
