What is my IP? - address lookup and more

http://www.whatismyip.com

"This number is an exclusive number all information technology devices (printers, routers, modems, et al) use which identifies and allows them the ability to communicate with each other on a computer network. There is a standard of communication which is called an Internet Protocol standard (IP). In laymans terms it is the same as your home address. In order for you to receive snail mail at home the sending party must have your correct mailing address (IP address) in your town (network) or you do not receive bills, pizza coupons or your tax refund. The same is true for all equipment on the internet. Without this specific address, information cannot be received. IP addresses may either be assigned permanently for an Email server/Business server or a permanent home resident or temporarily, from a pool of available addresses (first come first serve) from your Internet Service Provider. A permanent number may not be available in all areas and may cost extra so be sure to ask your ISP."

I Need My Teachers To Learn

YouTube - I Need My Teachers To Learn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDV_8axYxp8&feature=related

This video deserves an award ... yeesh! it puts tears in my eyes. Thanks, Kevin, Charlie and all the students. Comments are welcome via Twitter. Please pass it on.

"I Need My Teachers To Learn was Written and Performed by Kevin Honeycutt and produced by Charlie Mahoney (who also played percussion, bass, and Piano). This has gone through many incarnations, but after hooking up some good mics and recording equipment, I think we have a keeper. This recording includes background vocals from the Turning Point Learning Center Choir, which is composed of our virtual and face-2-face students. The newest version of the accompanying video will soon be posted on YouTube."

Password Chart - password generator

http://www.passwordchart.com/

"There is no magic snake oil here, its a simple substitution cipher. Here is how the algorithm works:

1. An MD5 hash of the chart selection phrase is performed and the first 4 bytes of the hash is used as a random number seed to a Mersenne Twister pseudo-random number generator.

2. The password chart is then filled using sequences of 1 to 3 random upper and lower case letters and optionally numbers and punctuation by grabbing successive numbers generated from the Twister.

The reason for the random sequence length is to make reversing the substitution cipher a bit harder. 3. The alphanumeric characters in the password is then converted using the chart."

Faces of Meth - the damage speaks for itself

He then worked to verify criminal records and files to determine and assure a history of methamphetamine related use. Deputy King also started interviewing people in custody to learn of their drug use, experiences with methamphetamine, how or if methamphetamine contributed to their criminality, and asked what they would tell young people about methamphetamine."

"Fitting for the national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King's accomplishments, many -- especially schoolchildren -- will browse the web looking for historical information on the civil rights leader's work and effect on the entire nation. But please be warned, one of the top searches on Google when looking for King is a site produced by white supremacist group Stormfront that seeks to disparage King's memory, prints scandal, lies and half-truths and even eludes to him being a sexual deviant. It tries to sell itself as "educational" but really is nothing remotely like that."

Atlas of Cyberspaces - geographies of the internet

http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/staff/m.dodge/cybergeography/atlas/atlas.html

"This is an atlas of maps and graphic representations of the geographies of the new electronic territories of the Internet, the World-Wide Web and other emerging Cyberspaces. These maps of Cyberspaces - cybermaps - help us visualise and comprehend the new digital landscapes beyond our computer screen, in the wires of the global communications networks and vast online information resources. The cybermaps, like maps of the real-world, help us navigate the new information landscapes, as well being objects of aesthetic interest. They have been created by 'cyber-explorers' of many different disciplines, and from all corners of the world. Some of the maps you will see in the Atlas of Cyberspaces will appear familiar, using the cartographic conventions of real-world maps, however, many of the maps are much more abstract representations of electronic spaces, using new metrics and grids. The atlas comprises separate pages, covering different types of cybermaps."

Consequently, a first objective is to provide lawyers and businessmen with a simple and modern device which enables them to have an initial overview of the applicable legal systems and the official languages which apply to the countries in which they are likely to operate, or where their endeavors may take them. A second objective of the project is to provide a visual educational tool aimed at illustrating and encouraging the teaching of comparative and international law, to train and prepare the students allowing them to perform in a globalized world. A third and final objective is to stimulate a discussion on the proper governance of globalization in order to develop dynamic multilateral international commercial tools which are both reliable and easily accessible and based on recognized principles and which take into account the diversity of the various legal systems, their languages and their economic and demographic importance."

Wallwisher - post-it notes on the web

"When was your big bang? Wallwisher was born out of the offices of SharedCopy in January 2008 (and you thought only living beings conceived). For over a year, the project was in a perpetual zombified state thanks to the academic commitments of the project's sole active janitor (pronounced 'yan - eetor'), Nitesh (@xiphar). In April 2009, the project was brought back from the dead. Where did the idea come from? Wallwisher's janitor has a post-it overuse problem. He uses post-its as reminders, coasters, bookmarks, wrappers for used gum, to-do list managers, memos. So he decided to have some post-its for the web. SharedCopy, a startup that dealt with adding notes to web pages, therefore, came as a natural choice for the janitor's December internship. It was there that the janitor came up with the idea for using a sticky-note/noticeboard interface for communicating on the web."
